This is one of Ottava’s favorite foods. And it has been such a time saver for breakfast for Ottava. I know hands down she will eat it. And that’s great as a mom. Because sometimes those little babies have a mind of their own on what they would eat yesterday vs what they will eat today.
Let me explain where the Loaded Sweet Potatoes gets its name. It’s because they are loaded with everything she needs for a full and real meal. Protein, carb, and fat. Sometimes this is all she wants to eat in the morning, so it’s fine with me if she does. That’s why I add more to it.
Plus, littles need good fats for their brain development and protein as building blocks for their bodies. Other reason why I don’t love store bought pouches is because there isn’t any fat added to them. They need more for their bodies!!
Before I forget, this recipe doesn’t have to be just for toddlers and babies. It is delicious and adults can eat it too! I actually have a recipe for a sweet potato bake in my Thanksgiving ebook.
You can customize this recipe for your kid and for their age. If they are younger, you can mash it up and add broth or breastmilk to it. If your child is older, you can make it in bigger chunks without adding any additional liquids to the recipe.
Ingredients
Cooked Sweet Potatoes
Coconut oil, or ghee or both
Cinnamon
Salt (just a little dash)
Collagen and/or Bone Broth Protein
Directions
- This recipe isn’t too much of a recipe. It’s really a mix together kind of recipe. I will give you some ideas for quantities and how to mix it up for your little one. I tend to make enough for 2-3 meals at a time.
- Coconut Oil: I try and give her somewhere between 1 teaspoon- 1/2 Tablespoon of coconut oil or ghee (more and she gets older) for breakfast. Sometimes I may give her a little more
- Cinnamon: just a dash. You could also add cloves, cardamom, nutmeg, or whatever delicious spices like cinnamon your little one likes
- Salt: I add a tiny bit. Just for the nutrients in pink salt. Babies under a year don’t really need added salt, but after a year I give Ottava some salt each day
- Collagen: This is for added protein that is very easy to digest. If Ottava isn’t eating actually meat or eggs for a meal, I’ll make sure to give her collagen
- Bone Broth Protein: I don’t add this as often as I add collagen. But If I do I’ll add about 1 Tablespoon of pure or vanilla bone broth protein
