A Make Ahead Salad and another use for a Mason Jar
Mason Jars have become a hot trend lately, but for good reason. They are so versatile and can be used for drinks, food storage, bulk purchase storage, snack cups and so much more. Plus, they are reusable and cost effective.
These salads are amazing. They last for about 5 days in the fridge and can be grabbed easily and thrown into your lunch bag for the day. Did I mention they are filling too?
They can be made with any ingredients, they key is just to assemble the ingredients in the right order. Another thing I love about this salad is because you can do all of the chopping, cooking and prep in one sitting and be can be prepared for the week in meals.
Here is how you assemble the salads (it’s in reverse order of how you would normally make a salad, that way it stays fresh):
- On the bottom of the jar put the dressing
- Put the hearty parts of the salad in next: Meat, Cucumbers, Carrots, Beans, Peppers, Onions, Broccoli Slaw, Bacon
- Add the Lighter parts of the salad: Quinoa, Nuts, Seeds, Onions, Sprouts, Mushrooms, Peas, Berries, Cheese or Tomatoes
- Top the salad off with your choice of greens (spinach, lettuce, kale, or spring greens)
Leave a little room at the top so you have room to shake up the whole salad.
Use your imagination and have fun making salads.
P.S. Don’t forget a fork!

Great way to pack a salad for lunch at work! No more soaked salads and extra containers for dressing!

Interesting concept but i think you left out if they need refrigeration or not.
I am mainly interested in trying to eat Paleo

Hi Camille-
Yes, you need to refrigerate them. Just like you would any regularly prepared salad. Enjoy! You will find a lot of Paleo (or Primal) recipes on my website. You may even be interested in my Just Enjoy Dessert ebook that’s on my shop page! You can find it here

Love this idea! This is a great way to pack in your lean proteins, grains and vegetables for lunch. Bringing your own home prepared lunch to work is not only healthier but also saves you money. Bonus!

Yes, Yes and Yes! I don’t know about you, but I always thing making salads are so hard, so I don’t make them as often as I should. This is a way to make them once and enjoy them throughout the week.
