Skin Twin Review and How to Color Match for the Right Color

Articles· Beauty

What is Skin Twin?

Skin Twin is Beautycounter’s newest featherweight foundation, and I am mildly obsessed. I was a die-hard mineral makeup girl until I started using our Tint Skin 5 years ago. It was cleaner and it didn’t make my dry skin look too dry (a problem I had in the past with liquid foundations). Now welcome the updated and improved Tint Skin called Skin Twin.

Featuring 18 shades, Skin Twin is a buildable, weightless, long-wearing, (more than Tint Skin), natural-looking foundation that feels like a second skin. Seriously, it feels like it’s barely on but the coverage lasts all day.

Skin Twin will absolutely love your skin! It delivers all-day hydration with 9x the hyaluronic acid plumping and smoothes the appearance of your skin.  Your skin will actually get better with each use. It is like skincare and makeup together!

What is the difference between Skin Twin from Tint Skin?

  • Improved Wear
  • Increased coverage buildability
  • 9x more hyaluronic acid
  • Glass packaging
  • EWG verified
  • It is important to note that Tint Skin will be around on the last chance page until it sells out (But you’re going to love Skin Twin so much that you won’t miss Tint Skin).

Why is it long lasting?

Skin Twin provides long-lasting wear because it is made with hydrophobic pigments. This means it actually repels water thus allowing it to last longer – and I can attest to that! At the end of the day, it is easy to remove with your favorite Beautycounter cleanser.

How Does it Finish?

Skin Twin has a really natural finish that gives a little more matte look than Tint Skin. It stays on longer for me without putting on mattifying powder on top. You can also layer it with Dew Skin. Put Dew Skin on top if you want more of a dewy look. Put Dew Skin under Skin Twin for SPF benefits. We also have a face sunscreen lotion with SPF 25 and it amazing for under makeup.

Does it work for all skin types?

Yes! And if you have really oily skin, using Mattifying Powder on top is the best. I prefer putting Mattifying Powder on top of my makeup for longer wear with all of my foundation usage. But I don’t do that every day, especially when I put on less makeup and have only 2-5 minutes.

How do you apply Skin Twin?

You will use 1-3 pumps depending on your coverage needs. I use about 1 pump (sometimes a little less). I really like a light application and that gives me the cover I like. I have also used this during a photoshoot and I put on 1 pump and then once the product was dry, I put on another pump and it was a fuller coverage and perfect for photos!

How long will the bottle last?

Depending on the recommended 1-3 pumps (I only use 1)  it should last anywhere from 2-4 months. I don’t wear foundation daily, so for me I am thinking it should last  around 6 months. Just like my Tint Skin.

How do I choose a color?

8 of the 18 shades are original Tint Skin colors

  • Porcelain Tint Skin is now Fair 150
  • Linen Tint Skin is now Light 210
  • Sand Tint Skin is now Medium 340
  • Honey Tint Skin is now Medium 350
  • Chestnut Tint Skin is now Dark 520
  • Mocha Tint Skin is now Dark 550
  • Cocoa Tint Skin is now Deep 630
  • Espresso Tint Skin is now Deep 650

It is easy to color match these. But, if you don’t fall into these exact colors… then here are some other tips.

skin tones

There are six shade categories:

  • Fair
  • Light
  • Medium
  • Tan
  • Dark
  • Deep

How do you color match the rest?

Undertones!

Let me explain.

How do you know your undertone?

1. Look at the underside of your wrist and look at your vein color. (Yes, vein color!)

2. If your wrist veins are green/ blue you are a neutral undertone. If your veins are purple/ blue you are cool or neutral (we only have one cool tone), and green mostly you would be warm. Also, olive tones need to stay neutral, if you have olive skin, a warm undertone will make you look yellow.

3. Once you know your undertone, you will figure out your shade category and then look for that undertone in the category. The colors do get darker as you go down the spectrum, but you will also want to stay with your undertone. If you are medium with a neutral undertone, you will choose Medium 340 or Tan 410. You’d skip Medium 350 because it probably won’t work well for you.

Does this make sense? I sure hope so! I want to do everything I can so you can choose the most accurate color and not have to return.

Do you need help color matching?

Take a selfie of your face about 3 feet away from a natural light source with no artificial light on your face. Also take another picture of your wrist so I can see the veins. Email them both to me  along with the color you think you are the closest to and I’ll give my best recommendations. I’m new to this too, so we will both be doing our best!
