Hey Friends! I have never posted my goals to the blog before, but I have loved seeing everyone post their goals. And this year I have enjoyed setting my goals while thinking and praying through this year. I guess I had to make up from last year when I set no goals. I was 10 weeks pregnant on January 1st and had ZERO idea what 2018 would bring. And, by God’s grace, it brought us little Evie Lu. And we love 2018 for that. But it also brought an unexpected second c-section (for her being footling breech) and adjusting to life with a second kiddo. Which, by the way, we are LOVING! I’m using this time of the new year to process all of the changes from 2018.
For the last 4 years I have used the Cultivate What Matters Powersheets for goal setting. I used to really dislike goal setting. I’m not motivated by really big and huge goals. They slow me down and leave me overwhelmed. I gave up on goal setting. Until Powersheets. I love how this workbook allows you to set intentional goals and figure out what really matters to you in your life. Big or small. It is meant to help you make what matters in life happen.
Without getting into all of the details of Powersheets, there is prep work at the beginning so you can start to learn to uncover your goals and what matters. Then you set your goals, and each month there is some prep work and a tending list. The tending list is what is so amazing to me. It reminds me what I have set for the month. And gives me a way to keep track of what I said I was going to do. I have it on my bedside table, and I check off my boxes daily. It has been the biggest help with accountability and being able to track the things that are important to me.
2019 is a year where I can’t wait to see what God is going to do in our family. Really! I feel like he is working so many things in my heart. And guess what? They aren’t huge things. They are the small things in daily life that end up being the really important ones.
Let’s start out with my word of the year: Focused Living
Yes, it’s technically 2 words, but it goes together into one theme for the year.
Focus– the center of interest or activity. The act of concentrating on a state of quality of having produced clear visual definition.
Living– the pursuit of a lifestyle of the specified type.
I want to pursuit a lifestyle that focuses on God, family, health, homemaking, community, my business and all of the things God has called me to in my daily life. Daily choices being made over and over again. Those things in life that can seem mundane, but are actually transforming my heart and life and where real life is found. This is the theme for all of my goals.
My 2019 Goals
1. Workout Wisely 180x this year
One of my goals in 2017 was to workout 100x in the year. Let me define what I look at as a workout. It is moving my body, plain and simple. Movement is something I want to be apart of my daily life and the daily life of my family too.
This year I upped that goal to 180x. I want to be active half of the month (which is 15x per month). It means a walk with the girls, 5-10 minutes on the rebounder, a tabata workout, all the way to a full 20-30 minute workout. I am also focusing on healing my abdominals from pregnancy and focusing on core rehab.
For me, the length and intensity doesn’t matter. What matters is that my body is moving. And when I move my body, my brain is clearer and my gut feels better. A big part of setting this goal is because intense and short cardio is something I have found works wonders for my digestive system and makes me feel my best. Which leads me to my next goal.
2. Gut Healing
Gut healing hasn’t been something I’ve focused working on in a couple of years. But my birth with Evie has uncovered some weaknesses in my gut that I started working on this last fall. It made me realize there is more healing to be done and I want a stable gut moving forward. When I get really bloated, it throws me off energy wise, physically, and emotionally (I feel really icky).
I am working on figuring out the foods, fitness, and supplements that I need to get there. And I’ve hired a wonderful muscle testing practitioner who is guiding me and helping me get there! I always recommend hiring someone and asking for help with your health. Let them use their expertise to guide you in what you need to do. It’s an amazing investment.
3. Just Enjoy Health Podcast
As you know, after having Evie, I decided to take a couple of months off of the podcast. It was exactly what I needed. I took a rest and paused to see what I wanted to do in the future with the podcast. And I know, how exciting is that??
I am going to bring the podcast back for 6 episode seasons (3-4 seasons in 2019). They are going to be 30-45 minute podcasts full of well researched information, interviews, favorite products, and will continue to be a big resource to help you with whatever topic the podcast is about. I’m very excited to start production on it!
My plan is to release the next podcast season in February 2019. This month is for planning really great content for you.
4. Intentional Marriage Investments
The last 4 years has been all pregnancies, babies, and breastfeeding. And it’s been a great and wonderful 4 years. But Phil and I realized we have let the date nights and time spent the 2 of us (aside from when the girls go to bed) go to the wayside. And in 2019, we are bringing back date nights! Well, probably date lunches on Saturday’s because that’s easier to get out of the house. It is our goal to make the time, take the energy, find the sitter, to have that time together again. We have the time, we just need to make the time!
Our goal is 2 dates per month to start. One out of the house on a Saturday for lunch. One in our house after the kids go to bed with no housework and no distractions of the home.
5. Beautycounter Team Growth
I have more specific goals than just business growth. I have enjoyed being a Beautycounter consultant so much. It has been the thing that has surprised me most in my business. I didn’t think I would love it so much, but I do. So, if you are a client of mine, thank you for your purchases. And if you buy Beautycounter from another consultant, thank you too, because you are choosing safer beauty for yourself and making a different in moving our mission of getting safer products in the hands of everyone forward.
I have a goal of growing as a team leader. I love working with my friends and fellow consultants. And I really want to be a good mentor to these amazing ladies who are on my team and choosing to run their own businesses from home too! I also want to get more products into homes. Beautycounter has something for the whole family and it is really easy to fall in love with these products.
6. Joy in Homemaking and Productivity in the Home
Having two kids has shown my need to grow my capacity. Or, I should say, allow God to grow me as he sees fit. He has ultimately equipped me to be a mom to these two sweet girls (and wife to my hubby). I love having two kids and it’s way more fun than I thought it could be. But it is also so much more work. I really am always needed by someone. It has exposed my need to be more productive and create more systems in our home.
I am organizing our home, purging closets and bins, and starting to simplify more. I know that is going to help out with not feeling like I have so much to do. But the bigger thing is finding joy in all of the work of the home.
I’ve realized a clean junk drawer is not going to bring a soul to rest. And although cleaning drawers is good, it’s more than that. I want to find joy and peace and meaning in the (seemingly) meaningless and mundane tasks of my days. Because that is when I’m really living the life God has for me. It is my biggest calling now, raising my two daughters. And I don’t want to overlook the meals and diapers and bath times as insignificant, because they are deeply significant to God. I want to see that more and work on becoming better at these things. Instead of stressing about the meal on the table, I want to have planned for it better so it can be a bigger joy for my family.
7. Revolution in Digital Content
I don’t quite know what this one looks like in my life yet. I just feel a stirring in my soul to check out of social media more and being on my phone to check and research something less. And yet, I do business on those platforms and actually love them when they are used well. Don’t worry, I won’t be deleting my accounts, but I am processing this all, and being receptive to the spirit about both creating content and consuming content.
8. Living My Fullest Life
This is really the theme of my goals. I listed this last, but it is not least. This embodies my word of the year. I want to live the life God has in front of me. The people in my home and in my life.
This year I am diving deeper into my Bible and studying it slower, for context, historical significance, and application. I want to savoring what God has to say in the book. I’m not reading the Bible cover to cover this year like in normally do. I’m taking on the New Testament this year, nice and slow.
I plan on figuring out what things bring rest and refilling. Along with learning to work really hard on business, our home, and continued consistency in motherhood. I want to be focused when I’m doing each task and limiting distractions.
