Ep. 79: How to Plan for a Gentle Family Cesarean Birth

Podcast

Ep. 79: How to Plan for a Gentle Family Cesarean Birth | MeghanBirt.com

I never planned on having a c-section birth. Despite all my desires and the plans I made to have a natural home birth with Ottava, life happened and things changed (as they sometimes do!

Maybe you find yourself in similar shoes, facing a change in your birth plan and feeling a little scared or apprehensive about the future (which I totally get!)

Or maybe you just want to know more about c-sections because if you happen to find yourself in a position where you need one, you want to be well-researched on what to expect and how to have the best experience possible.

In this episode I’m sharing all about my experience with a gentle, natural, family-centered cesarean birth.

I want you to know that even with a cesarean you can still have a beautiful birth and make it as natural as possible.

While a cesarean delivery was not my plan, and I’d been dreaming of a beautiful, peaceful, and serene home birth, a breech baby and a cesarean birth is what I got, so I might as well tell my story and help as many people as I can who find themselves in similar circumstances!

It is possible to make a surgical birth the most physiologically natural birth for you and the best for your baby.

My OB told me that it’s a birth first and surgery second, which is the basis of what a gentle, family-centered cesarean is.

The actual procedure obviously doesn’t change. But the main thing is that the focus of the OB, nurses, anesthetists, and anyone else in the room is that birth is happening and a baby is being born.

It is focused on the well-being and bonding of mom, baby and dad, as well as putting the needs of the baby before the traditional rules and customs of an operating room.

What You’ll Hear:

  • What exactly a gentle, family-centered cesarean birth is (and what it’s not!)
  • How you can plan and prepare to have a great cesarean birth
  • Specific questions to ask your OB and birth team about your c-section
  • Personal details from my c-section birth experience (so you can know what’s possible and what to expect)
