JEH #62: Methylation Basics and Supporting Healthy Methylation

Podcast

What in the world is methylation? It is the ability to form methyl groups and use those methyl groups in the body. It is a biochemical pathway called the Methyl Cycle. It is important for managing or contributing to a wide range of crucial bodily functions, including:

Detoxification
Immune function
Maintaining DNA (turns on and off genes, epigenetics)
Energy production
Mood balancing
Controlling inflammation

All these processes help the body respond to environmental stressors, to detoxify, and to adapt and rebuild. That’s why lowered methylation function may contribute to many health problems and symptoms. Without methylation in the body, our bodies don’t survive.

Methylation is part of ALL of the cells of our body (over 10 trillions cells) and happens over a billion times a second (pretty amazing).

Check out this week’s episode where I talk about all the basics and how to support HEALTHY methylation.
