Cleaning products can be a major source of toxins in the home. When I say major source of toxins, just get ready until I get to some of the ingredients they contain and what they do to the body. We expect the cleaners we buy to clean our homes, get rid of messes and germs and expect that they aren’t going to hurt us.
That’s not the case. We have to be extremely careful of our cleaning supplies. Pretty much anything you find in a major grocery store’s cleaning aisle isn’t something you want in your home. Did you know that the air quality in our homes are 4-5x more toxic than the outside of our homes.
Here are some of the warnings made by well-known cleaning products:
- “May be fatal or cause permanent damage.”
- “Causes severe burns which may not be immediately painful or visible.”
- On technical information for workers, “will penetrate skin and attack underlying tissues and bone.”
-
“Will burn skin and eyes. Avoid contact with skin, eyes, mucous membranes and clothing. Harmful if swallowed. Avoid inhaling spray mist. Wear long rubber gloves while using…”
- “Vapor harmful… open windows and doors or use other means to ensure fresh air entry during application and drying.”
- “harmful or fatal if swallowed.”
- “prolonged or repeated exposure may cause reproductive and fetal effects.”
- “in well-ventilated rooms away from sleeping areas.”
These are the warnings on bottles. Does this make you feel good about using them and having them in your house with your pets? I keep all of these toxic cleaning products out of our home and have for years. I have learned that not only are natural cleaning products so much safer, they work just as well or better than their chemical counterparts.
There are a lot of good natural products you can buy. Young Living even has their own line of Thieves products including a cleaner. If you want to DIY, you can make this a Cleaning Spray at home that’s easy, budget friendly and uses the bottle of Thieves you already have at home.
You can use Thieves Cleaning Spray for lots of different applications around the house. Bathrooms, floors, sinks, countertops and lots more.

What size spray bottle are you using? Thanks..
Meghan Birt says
I used a 16 oz bottle. Any size will work, just adjust the volume accordingly.
Jenifer Upton says
Do you use distilled water or can you use tap?
Meghan Birt says
I would use distilled or reverse osmosis water. Tap water could be really hard and not get things as clean because of it. You’re not drinking it, so it’s not the end of the world, but I think some form or distilled or purified water would work better.
