Since I had Ottava Ella I’ve gotten a lot of questions about what I feed her and what my baby feeding philosophy is. Aside from questions about her actual birth, these are the most common ones!
What’s really ironic is that, as I was taping this episode and putting together these show notes, Ottava has entered into a new food phase. She’s 16 months old and is becoming much more particular about the foods she eats.
I’m not calling her a picky eater, but she’s learning what foods taste good and how she can get away with eating only strawberries and peanut butter for a meal (which I don’t let happen, for the record!)
Overall Ottava has been a wonderful eater and I’ve worked hard to encourage her to eat well and like unique flavors. Her very first foods were pureéd liver and broth! Weird, I know – but she loved it!
She still loves liver, and will eat sardines with so much love. I can’t bring myself to try them again after not liking them, but my kid sure loves them!
This episode is a little longer than normal, but I got carried away by all the information I wanted to share with you.
It’s a pretty organic conversation about why we choose to feed Ottava grain-free and some of the thoughts I had when deciding what to feed her, and when.
I do want to make sure to be clear – I have just one kid. I’ve only done this once and we aren’t even 2 years into it. All babies are so unique and our exact strategy isn’t going to work for everyone.
Some things I share in this episode can be applied to all babies and kids, while others may be more unique to my child.
Just remember, working to develop good taste buds and introducing babies to a variety of flavors, textures and “weird” foods early is a good thing!
The hardest part of feeding my daughter has been making food 3 times per day, having food readily available, and making sure she’ll like it and not have to start all over again with a new meal.
To help support you in your baby feeding journey, I’ve created a baby food meal planning guide for you to download for free. It will help you plan out meals and have a better idea of what you’re going to feed your baby.
