Body hate. Body envy. Body shaming. Body comparison. Negative Self Talk.
Women, this has got to stop.
I’m not saying that this has to stop because I’ve never struggled in this area. I’m not saying this because I think these thoughts should never go through our minds. I say this has to stop because of how much I struggled with this topic in the past. And how much I still struggle with how easily a thought or two like this can creep into my mind.
Our bodies were created by God himself. In the image of God. He hand chose your body shape, your height, your cheek bone structure, your nose, your athleticism, your personality, your quirks, your passions. Everything was hand designed by God himself. This is a powerful thought to let take root in your heart. And believe. Not just in our minds, but believe deep within our souls.
You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. -Psalm 139:13
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. -Genesis 1:27
Ladies, this thought is a game changer
I believe that we are to honor God with our bodies. We need to feed them well, move our bodies and get rid of all of the toxins in our homes and the things that we use on our bodies. It’s one of my passions, it’s the backbone of what I do and what I teach. But guess what? These things don’t change if you first don’t change your mind. It’s a mindset change. It’s deeply emotional.
With one internet search you can open up a ton of health information. It’s good stuff, things that have the potential to change your life. But guess what? If you’re not ready emotionally for it, then it’s all going to go in one ear and out the other. Start with changing your mind. Start by thinking good things about yourself.
I know what you’re thinking? What if you are just starting? You know you’re not healthy. Maybe not honoring God with your body (yet). Maybe the person in the mirror isn’t your picture of health. Guess what? Start today. Don’t wait another day to tell yourself that you were created in God’s very image. Don’t wait until you lose that next 10 pounds. Don’t wait until you have healthy food in your house. Start to love your body today. We take care of things that we love. We honor and respect things that we love. Once again, this starts in your mind.
If we set our mind to change what we are thinking, our hearts can open up to taking in healthy truths. This is when real change happens.
Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. -1 Corinthians 16:19-20
This is a spiritual discipline women. It’s not easy, but it completely worth it! Let’s love our bodies. And let’s not do it for ourselves. Let’s do it because that’s what God wants from us. Let’s do it for Him who created you the exact way he wants you to be. Meditate on these verses and see how the word of God can change how you see yourself.
So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. -1 Corinthians 10:31
And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. -Colossians 3:17
Let’s help each other.
How do you love your body? How have you broken some of the chains of disliking your body?
P.S. I believe you can never “master” this. We are always working to improve our thought life.
