Carrie Vitt is amazing! I have followed her for years on her blog Deliciously Organic. She has this amazing fusion of creativity and simplicity in her recipes that I have loved for so long. Some of my go-to recipes have been from Carrie! The Grain-free Family Table is Carrie’s second cookbook. I had the amazing opportunity to be one of the people to review this cookbook. And it’s been something that I have referenced quite a few times so far and know I will more and more in the future.
The Grain-Free Family Table is a grain-free cookbook. Carrie shares her health story in this book and how she healed herself from an autoimmune diagnosis through a processed food-free, grain-free lifestyle. That inspired her to start her blog and eventually write her cookbooks. I believe the people with the most passion have stories of their own pain and suffering. Carrie eventually reversed her thyroid disease and she shares a lot of her story on her blog. So go over there to read more about Carrie. She’s truly an inspiration! The Grain-Free Family Table also has a grain-free ingredient list, how to adapt recipes, where to shop for the best ingredients and the essentials of a grain-free kitchen. (And she also includes some fun kitchen tools that are just fun to have around!).
Oh, yes… I almost forgot. This cookbook is very family friendly! Carrie has two girls and she has a lot of great recipes that kids will love and flavors that they are going to enjoy as much as you! I am sharing one of the recipes from the cookbook and doing a giveaway of the cookbook too!
Sausage Balls
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups almond flour
- 1 tablespoon coconut flour
- 1 teaspoon Celtic sea salt
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 12 ounces cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1 pound spicy sausage (I used turkey sausage and make sure it’s nitrate free)
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F and adjust the rack to the middle position. Line a baking sheet with unbleached parchment paper.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the almond flour, coconut flour, salt, baking powder, garlic powder and cheese. Use your hands to incorporate the sausage into the dry mixture (about 1-2 minutes until the mixture comes together); the mixture will be damp. Roll the mixture into 1 1/2-inch balls and place on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 25 minutes, until just golden brown. Cool for 5 minutes and serve.
I am going to be giving away a copy of Carrie’s Grain-Free Family Table to one lucky reader!
