Book Review: The Autoimmune Paleo Cookbook + a Giveaway

Recipes

Gorgeous cookbook with a PURPOSE!

That’s the first thing I thought of while paging through The Autoimmune Paleo Cookbook. Aside from my taste buds going crazy at the look of all of the pictures and recipes I can confidently say that this cookbook is going to be a lifeline and a guidebook for people with chronic illness and autoimmune conditions. Mickey is incredibly knowledgable about the autoimmune paleo diet and you can find out lots more on her website.

I haven’t shared much on the blog about the Autoimmune Paleo diet. So before I totally confuse you on it, I wanted to give you some insight. The autoimmune paleo diet is a healing diet and an allergen-free diet. It removes grains, nuts, seeds, eggs, dairy, nightshades (tomatoes and peppers are the main ones), beans, legumes and any chemicals/ processed foods. It includes very nutrient dense foods that will assist in healing the body from the inside out. The main focus of the autoimmune protocol is to heal leaky gut by removing foods that are the most common allergens in order to reduce the triggers that are causing dysbiosis and an autoimmune attack on the body. The long term view is once the autoimmune issue has decrease or symptoms disappear you can slowly try and add back in a few of these foods to see if they trigger your body into more symptoms again. My thought is if you have an autoimmune condition (or severe gut symptoms) you should always avoid grains because they almost 100% of the time will trigger autoimmune reactions again and again.

The autoimmune paleo protocol is guidelines for helping with autoimmunities and will help you learn your own body. There’s no one-diet-fits-all, which most of us know by now. I work with many patients with autoimmune conditions on a daily basis and it is something that is extremely complex. I would recommend getting The Autoimmune Paleo Cookbook and finding a natural practitioner who works with and understands causes and can find a source to the autoimmune flare in your body. Contact Me if you need any help. I would love to help or help find another practitioner who I know can help. You can also read this article on Autoimmune Conditions from Dr. Pompa. It will help you understand more of what is going on in your body and what contributed to the trigger of an autoimmune disease. And if you don’t have any autoimmunities, you will still learn a lot on how not to trigger one.

I was so lucky to receive an advanced copy of The Autoimmune Paleo Cookbook along with the opportunity to share with you an exclusive recipe. Yep… you get a sneak peak inside of the cookbook along with this delicious recipe for Chicken Stir Fry. There are so many great recipes in here but when I saw this stir fry I knew I had to make it. I love a good stir-fry. And without stretching the truth I believe this was my favorite stir fry I have ever tasted! (And, allergen free of course too, which makes it even better). There was such a depth of flavor with the garlic and ginger and it was so fresh tasting too. This is a dish we can make often because we have many of these ingredients on hand at all times.

Once you have tried it let me know how much you love this recipe. I know I’m not alone in praising how amazing it is.

This sounds like exactly what I need! I’ve been Paleo for almost a year now and I don’t have autoimmune issues, but do have a weakened immune system from some nasty stuff I dealt with while living overseas. Excited to enter and learn more about this extended paleo concept!

I want to know why meat can be an allergen?

      Hi Teya-
Meat in and of itself is not an allergen. But eating meat from a conventionally raised cow or chicken can be hard on the body because of the hormones and antibiotics given. Along with having the cows fed things like grains, it changes the structure of the oils represented and they are inflammatory to our bodies. Hope that helps!

I think this book could be great to help me find ways to eat without some of these potential allergen foods, since I still eat some of them a lot (nuts, seeds, eggs, dairy, nightshades…I LOVE peppers!) It will be interesting to see how I feel after doing without them for a bit.

I started the paleo lifestyle in January and love it so far, it has helped so much, there are still a couple of issues I have that haven’t cleared up, I’d love to have this book to try an autoimmune approach to see if it helps further.

Looks delicious! I would be interested in experimenting with the AIP. I am still having some reactions to different foods and this is my planned next step in figuring those out. Looks like a great resource! :-)
