Well, you read that title correctly. We are moving AGAIN! And it’s definitely not a matter of wanting to move again. But we have to move again.
Let me explain the best I can. And get ready for a story.
I felt really strongly about sharing our whole story and not just a clip about having to move again. This has been a learning experience (a very stressful, frustrated and at time infuriating learning experience). But all together we have learned some good life lessons. And I guess if nothing else I’m really good at packing and living out of a suitcase. Ok, I’m joking about the suitcase thing, well, mostly!
Let’s start from the beginning…
This spring my husband and I decided not to buy a house. We were having a hard time with the competitive housing market and almost all of the homes we saw in the area were old and needed some serious rehab. We decided we weren’t in the market for a home that needed a lot of work in this season of our lives. We are not handy around the house and our budget didn’t allow for remodeling. Also, we didn’t want to move into an old house if we couldn’t see what was behind the walls. We made the decision we were going to rent a house for a few years and then buy a home. There was a lot of prayer that went into our decision and felt us being led into a certain suburb of Minneapolis and we started looking for a rental home. Sounds like a great plan, right? We thought so too.
Fast forward and it’s been 3 months and no rental homes were available that was even remotely close to what we needed and we had to move our of our apartment in 4 weeks (Gotta love putting in your 60 day notice). This time looking for a rental was very stressful, we had no place to live and a deadline to get out of our apartment. We had a home to rent that fell through and with 2 1/2 weeks to spare we found this house we are currently renting. We walked in and the layout was what we were looking for and it felt like it could be our home over the next few years. New floors, roof, windows, appliances and a good fresh coat of paint. All looked great! We moved in 2 1/2 weeks after first seeing this house. A lot happened within a 4 week timeframe and the physical stress and emotional stress was starting to wear my body down. I was so excited to move into the new place, get unpacked and make the house a home. Even though we didn’t own the home we wanted to make it as close to our home as we could.
Within 2 days of moving into our house we got water in the basement following a storm. It was a very rainy and wet spring in Minnesota and many people had water in their basements. But with this house, we learned from the neighbors that the home had been getting water in the basement for 50 years. Oh, great!! This is where I will save some details because I will be writing a post all about water/ air quality and mold and will fill you in later. Fast forward 5 more weeks and we had water 6 more times in this house. When I thought it couldn’t get more stressful, it did. And trust me, I know the dangers of water and mold. And I thought so many times… Why is this happening to us?? I do my research and fought to have an air quality test done on the home which came back safe to live in. Well, 5 weeks changes a lot in terms of air quality. Our air quality was (is) horrible and it’s not something that we could let continue.
A few weeks ago my husband and I had a decision to make: fight with the landlord about remediating the problem or else moving again. When the idea of moving first came up I was so against it. I didn’t think I could physically and, to be honest, mentally handle moving again. But when we thought and prayed about it over a weekend we were very at peace about moving and confident about moving forward finding a new place to live.
The house search started… again!
So guess what?? We bought a house! Can you believe it? Part of me doesn’t believe it! We are so excited though for this new season. We found an end unit townhome with ample room that is 7 years old. It’s perfect for us and going to be such a great home!
Because of having to re-pack and move again, I am going to be a little absent from the blog. I will do my best and be here where I can. Please be patient, because I will be back! (and with a new kitchen!!)
Over the next month I will be sharing guest posts from some of my favorite bloggers. Their content is amazing and they will be sharing some delicious recipes.
See you all soon!! And if you have any packing or moving tips please send them my way!! We could use all of the tips we can get.
Talk soon-

Oh Meghan, I literally feel your pain (minus the mold + air quality part). We are in the middle of a move (too many to mention at this point) and there’s very little that is fun about it!
I always pack a measuring tape, our sheets, a candle (and a lighter) and my coffee stuff in a suitcase that I know I will have access to first thing. Nothing is worse than trying to go to sleep or wake up in a new house without certain things. Best of luck to you and congratulations on the house!!!!!

Glad you got out of that bad situation. We had a minor mold problem and it was a huge headache and not healthy!
Congrats on the new house!
