Spring Daylight Savings Time… We Meet Again. How to Survive Spring Daylight Savings Time
Were you tired coming into spring daylight savings time? I thought… on no, we meet again! Who thought this on Sunday morning? Or maybe it was Monday morning that you felt the jumping forward an hour. I’m joking a bit because I know it has to happen, but it does hit me pretty hard. I first felt daylight savings time on Monday. I love the days lasting longer so when I walk out of work it’s still light out, but adjusting to the change can be a challenge. My body has never done time changes well, but when I’m detoxing it has an even harder time.
On Monday my alarm went off at 6:45 am and it felt like it was the middle of the night. I felt like something was wrong with me, like I was hit my a truck. But I had to get ready for work so I pulled my body out of bed and made it to work. Once I was at work, I felt great… full of energy and ready to work. But then Tuesday morning came around and I felt it was the middle of the night all over again. Being I felt this AGAIN, I decided I had to do something about it to get my body back on this new time zone, even if it is just one hour ahead.
So here’s what I did:
1. Hydrate
I made sure that I was hydrated well these days so I could keep my system going and my energy up. I try and always drink 1/2 of my body weight in ounces per day. But I made sure I was doing that this week.
2. Screen Time
I stayed away from doing any additional work on my blog on my computer and rested more in the evening. That way I could sleep better at night and not let the screen disrupt my melatonin and affect my sleep.
3. Essential Oils
I used my essential oils to help me unwind at night. I put lavender on the bottoms of my feet. I love the smell of lavender every time of day but especially at night. And I also put a few drops of lavender in my bath.
4. Epsom Salt Bath
Before I went to bed I took a calming epsom salt bath. I put 1 cup of epsom salts in a hot bath and soaked for about 20 minutes. Oh, and I put a few drops of my lavender essential oil in the bath too. Relaxing Bliss!
5. A Nap
Yep, my last secret is a good ‘ol nap! This is was the secret I could get caught up on a little more sleep. I have Wednesday mornings off, so before work I snuck in 40 minutes of sleep. I woke completely renewed and refreshed. I seriously felt like my eyes were opened and I was starting my week over again.
These are my 5 Tips to surviving spring daylight savings time. The first 4 tips can also be used in helping fall asleep anytime and if you struggle with insomnia.
